OT in school?

My very first practical in degree is at SCHOOL!!!

My practical mate at SEK KEB ALAI MELAKA

For those who doesn’t know, my course is related to rehabilitation called occupational therapy. We are the first batch who practical in school setting compare to our senior who practical in hospital

 What we can do in school?

Our main objective is to prepare students to be able to study in class with other students. Our targeted students is the one that unable to follow teacher’s instructions.

Lack of attention and concentration, Behavior problem, Problem in visual perception, Eye hand coordination, and Gross and fine motor

Some students who doesn’t know how to hold pencil properly we assess their core problem and treat based on their problem

Some treatment that we gave

Eye hand coordination

Oral therapy for student who has speech delay

Pinch tree for hand writing preparation

Color sorting for visual perception

Constructional ability for cognitive function

Sand therapy

Balance therapy

Aerobic

Brushing for sensory stimulation

Home visit to student’s house

Bilateral activity

And much much more fun activites. We use play as our main medium of treatment because the major activity that child does is play

So there are 2 more weeks to finish my practical in school

Seriously it is more fun and challenging than hospital based practical

We become more creative and independent due to lack of treatment tools

And the teachers are so supportive and they love to learn new knowledge

The sharing session is so informal and fun.
